Firsthand accounts of Terrorism

After reading Ben-Yehuda's account of being injured in a terrorist attack, I was reminded of certain days, dark days.

Baruch HaShem, we don't hear of too many suicide bombings lately, largely due to the "infamous" security fence. But there used to be many, many attacks.

I remember those times vividly.

I grew up in the '90s in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Those were the days of the #18 bus bombings, after the other, some of them taking place a mere few blocks away from my home.

Dark days.

The dark day when I took the bus home from school in Tel Aviv and hearing on the radio about the Dizengoff bombers.

The dark day when I wake up hearing a massive boom, walk 3 blocks to the Machane Yehuda Market and still see the car burning, hearing the crowd cry for vengeance against the Arabs (no casualties that time, BH).

The dark day when I hear that my mother was talking to my sister in Ben Yehudah Mall and my sister hears the phone go dead. Turns out my mother was running for cover while multiple explosions are going off, targeting rescuers and civilians alike.

Want to hear more? Visit Gila at My Shrapnel who will tell you what its like "getting to know your shrapnel".

So the next time some asshole complains about how the security fence is oppressing the Palis, tell them to take a ride in the DeLorean time machine and take a seat on the #18 bus. That should change their stupid minds.

JDJ,

Thank you for adding your story, and for link.

Although I agree that no one should complain about the "poor" Yishmaelim, that fence is not the answer.

All of it belongs to us, and it is a big bushah that the Israeli gov't worries more about what the goyim, than what its people thinks, let alone what HaShem thinks.

For every terrorist attack {lo aleinu}, we don't need to haggle over the terrorist house and whether to destroy it. We need to take out the entire village.

Either they'll stop, in which case their "emunah" will be shown to be a sham. Or they won't stop, in which case the world will see how nuts they are,...as if I give a rat's tuchus what the goyim think.

Your brother is putting his tuchus on the line for us. The IDF leadership cares more about protecting civilians and their rights that your brother.

What's worse is where are the rabbis? Where is their outrage? There are only a handful who point out that we're in a milhemeth misswah, in which case there are no "innocent civilians." But they're just ignored.

I agree with your kewanah, but not the fence as a solution. It puts us on the road to mesirah, which according to the Rambam is forbidden irregardless of the lives is would supposedly save.

We've seen from Gaza, it doesn't save any lives.

Well said. I can't even imagine growing up like that -- thanks for sharing your story.

The fence is not highly effective and looks ugly. I propose Vulcan Cannons instead.

Ben-Yehudah said...

Vulcan cannons? Maybe. But put them facing Jordan, Egypt, and Syria, and kick out every hostile enemy from Israel.

In the meantime, if there is {has vehallilah} a terrorist attack, bomb the terrorist's entire village.

Which weapon would you recommend for that?

I think phaser blasts from the air would be sufficient.

Here's Sultan Knish's proof that Israel has the capability.
